A small boutique hotel with the service of a family-run inn (read: excellent and very personal), the de la Mer is a mere 1/8 block from the beach. Opened in 2001 in a restored, historic Bauhaus building, it features restful décor; the designer used the principals of feng shui in his work and somehow that translates to lots of natural woods, oriental rugs and lovely floral coverlets in most of the rooms. A variety of guest rooms are offered; at the lowest rates are compact but pleasant digs. If you can splash out, the spacious junior suites with terraces are among the best rooms in town at any price. Breakfast is served in a friendly setting, and tea and coffee are free 24/7 in a new cafe lounge. The hotel also has a small roof terrace and a spa room for in-house massage.
