Kennebunkport Captains Collection

Comprising four historic captain’s homes within a two-block radius, tucked away in a quiet residential neighborhood, the Kennebunkport Captains Collection flaunts the town’s genteel historicity better than any other area lodging. Each of the houses—the William Jefferds House, James Fairfield House, Nathaniel Lord Mansion, Acton Patterson House—dates to the early 19th century, and each later operated as an inn or bed-and-breakfast before Massachusetts-based Lark Hotels brought them together into one hospitality micro-village in 2021. Each house has its own design and character while privileging details of the Federal-style architecture. The nine rooms of the Fairfield House, for example, feel contemporary and beachy, with mod furnishings and walls covered with splashy work by contemporary Maine artists. The Lord Mansion, meanwhile, is old-school and sumptuous, filled with thick draperies, four-poster beds, mahogany furnishings, and period art. Nearly all the rooms have fireplaces; all have their own climate control and bathrooms with walk-in showers or soaking tubs. Every house is a short walk to Dock Square, and guests share indoor and outdoor common spaces across the campus: gardens, libraries, and lounges.
