Located at Poria, in the orchard-dotted hills overlooking the lake 4km (2 1/2 miles) to the southwest of Tiberias, this is a delightful, inexpensive base for travelers with cars (there is no public bus). Yes, it’s somewhat rustic, but its expertly managed by the Israel Youth Hostel Association (IYHA), kitchen facilities are included and the setting is beyond beautiful. Because it is so high above the lake, it’s a bit cooler on summer nights than Tiberias itself. Family or private rooms with A/C, TV and fridge can be arranged when the hostel is not full, but call well in advance as the hostel is often exclusively booked by large, touring groups.
