Set in a large, walled garden, this hotel, composed of 19th-century stone buildings in the heart of downtown Tiberias is the loveliest and most atmospheric place to stay in town. It’s affiliated with the Church of Scotland, but travelers of all religions are welcome. Room categories include the modern standard (“unique”) rooms and the more expensive “antique” rooms that offer atmospheric, arched ceilings, and exposed basalt-stone architectural details, plus lake views. Pampering extras incluse spa and massage services, a swimming pool, private beach, an in-house program of evening performances and activities, truly excellent meals and a friendly staff. Two warnings: When booked by tour groups, the tranquility of the location can be lost, and the room rates become unusually high but this is a wonderful base to tour the region from when it’s not jam-packed. Dining facilities are not kosher.
