Set in an expansive walled garden, this hotel, composed of 19th-century stone buildings in the heart of downtown Tiberias is one of the loveliest place to stay in town—most of the time (see below). It’s affiliated with the Church of Scotland, but travelers of all religions are welcome. Room categories include the modern standard (“unique”) rooms and the more expensive “antique” rooms that offer atmospheric, arched ceilings, and exposed basalt-stone architectural details, plus lake views. Pampering extras include a fine spa with massage services, a very nice swimming pool, private beach, an in-house program of evening performances and activities, truly excellent meals, and a friendly staff. Warning: When booked by tour groups, the tranquility of the location can be lost, and the room rates become unusually high, but this is a wonderful base from which to tour the region when it’s not jam-packed. Dining facilities are not kosher.
