You won't find museums or monuments at this outdoorsy resort, but the cold, clear waters of Lake Titisee are among the most sought-after in the region. The premier bathing spot is Schwimmbad Titisee, Strandbadstrasse (tel. 07651/8272), which combines the chlorinated waters of the town's largest swimming pool with access to a sandy beach adjacent to the lake, complete with cabanas, showers, and refreshment stands. Entrance to the complex costs 3.50€ for adults, 1.90€ for students and children. It's open from mid-May to September daily 9am to 7pm (closed Oct to mid-May).

Except for a handful of medium-size steamers that slowly circumnavigate the lake , local ordinances allow only rowboats, foot-operated paddle boats, and electric (not gas-operated) motorboats on the water's surface, a rule that keeps noise, pollution, and rowdiness to a minimum. You can rent rowboats and paddle boats for 6€ to 9€ per half-hour. About a half-dozen purveyors of these rental craft line the edges of the Seestrasse, the town's main lakefront promenade; the two best are Drubba (tel. 07651/981200; and Schweizer-Winterhalder (tel. 07651/8214;

Schweizer-Winterhalder also operates lake steamers, which provide a more comfortable excursion. June to September, they depart during the day at hourly intervals from the company's pier. Trips last about 25 minutes and are priced at 4.50€ per person.

Spa clients within Titisee head for the facilities within the Hotel Brugger, am See, Strandbadstrasse 14 (tel. 07651/8010;, which are open to residents of other hotels. In nearby Neustadt, the Kneipp-Kur (tel. 07651/1270;, in the Kurpark, offers an equivalent spa facility, with treatments for cardiac and vascular disorders, rheumatism, and intestinal diseases.

Shoppers and boaters head to the stores that line the lakefront Seestrasse. In the early evening, a Bavarian-style marching band promenades along the lakefront, its members stopping at various hotels en route.
