The great pleasure of Todos Santos is strolling its historic streets, browsing in the more than 20 art galleries, and eating and drinking at its many delightful cafes, restaurants, and bars. These are mainly concentrated in the north of town, in the area around Plaza Centenario bordered by Calle Juárez to the south, Calle Obregón to the east, Calle Morelos to the west, and Calle Pilar to the north. Don't miss the noted Galería de Todos Santos, corner of Topete and Legaspi (tel. 612/145-0500), which features a changing collection of works by regional artists. It's open daily from 11am to 4pm (closed Sun May-Nov) and doesn't accept credit cards. Also of note are the galleries of Jill Logan, Juárez at Morelos (tel. 612/145-0151) and Gabo, Márquez de León between Colegio Militar and Juárez (tel. 612/145-0514), two of the brightest stars in Todos' art firmament. You can also see their work on display at the Hotel California and Tre Galline.
During the Festival Fundador (Oct 10-14), which celebrates the founding of the town in 1723, streets around the main plaza fill with food, games, and wandering troubadours. Many of the shops and the Café Santa Fe close from the end of September through the festival. The Arts Festival (www.todossantos-baja.com/todos-santos/art/art-festival.htm), held in February, seems to be gaining importance, with film, dance and music performances, and more. And the Todos Santos Film Festival (www.todossantoscinefest.com), in the first week of March, has become a bona fide event in Latin American film.
Although most tours of Todos Santos start from outside town, family-run Todos Santos Eco Adventures (tel. 619/446-6827 in the U.S., or 612/145-0189; www.tosea.net) will take you bird-watching, hiking, or walking along the cliffs and beaches. Cabo San Lucas Tours (tel. 866/348-6286 in the U.S., or 01-800/822-4577; www.cabosanlucastours.net) leads art tours of the town that start in San José, and La Paz-based dive operator Fun Baja (tel. 612/106-7148; www.funbaja.com) offers walking tours of Todos Santos, as well as Pescadero, with offbeat stops like a strawberry farm.
