Canada's largest opera company, the fifth largest in North America, was founded in 1950. Performances take place at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts, a venue built with opera aficionados in mind. To give you an idea of how popular the Canadian Opera Company is, its performances have been at 99% capacity for the past 4 years. More than three-quarters of the tickets are held by subscribers, making this a tough "get" for visitors -- so plan ahead. The COC is now headed by new music director Johannes Debus. A new series of standing-room tickets sold for about $15 the day of the performance regularly sells out.
