Light sleepers should not even consider a night at this hotel, located atop one of the city’s most revered jazz and blues clubs. Every week, two dozen or so different acts grace the stages below, and the sultry sounds travel up (it's particularly noisy in the rooms with shared bathrooms). The postage-stamp-sized accommodations are clean, however, and decently upkept, and the staff are top-drawer humans: happy to help with a heavy bag or snag a coveted dinner reso, and genuinely keen to know how your day is going. Although the noise sounds like a drawback, the Rex is ideal for night owls and music lovers who need a budget-friendly place to lay their heads. The frivolity below simmers down by the witching hour, earlier on weekdays. The Queen West location means the AGO, top galleries, and cool neighborhoods are all within walking distance, and the onsite music is a delightful way to kick off a night on the town.
