Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman’s Entertainment District restaurant has served dinner to the red-carpet who’s-who. On one night it’s Atom Egoyan chatting with friends in a corner; on another, Sandra Bullock, Richard Gere, or Jennifer Hudson can be found enjoying Chef Matt Simpson’s seasonal menu. The 330-seat, two-level space is opulent. Two giant screens play a pastoral Californian scene shot by Reitman. It’s as if you’re looking out the window into the sunny, warm Montecito countryside—even when Toronto is gray and frostbitten. Although the menu abides by California farm-to-table principles (uncluttered plates that put the ingredients at the forefront), the kitchen is strict about promoting a Canada-first policy, sourcing only from Canuck producers. On the dessert card you’ll find the only tie-in to Reitman’s oeuvre: the Stay Puft Marshmallow Baked Alaska.
