If you want to have the utmost castle experience, this is the glitziest château-hotel in the valley. Nestled in a forest 1.5km (1 mile) west of the hamlet of Montbazon and 15km (9 1/4 miles) south of Tours, the château is newer than it looks, built in 1912 for the perfume and cosmetics king François Coty, who spared no cost for this perfect architectural beauty. Much of this character remains today, with fine antiques, Louis XV–style chairs, and various bronze and marble statuary. Only 31 units are in the main building; the others are in four annexes: a former chapel, gatehouse, mill, and staff dormitory. Each have their own charm, yet might not be what you’re expecting so be careful when booking. Complete your château experience at the Artigny’s regal restaurant L’Origan. Vegetarian and gluten-free options available.
