32km (20 miles) NW of Killarney

Sandwiched between the Ring of Kerry and the Dingle Peninsula, Tralee doesn’t quite live up to its singsong pretty name. Mostly it’s a place you go through, rather than to. With a population of 24,000, the town is nearly twice the size of Killarney, but this is a workaday place, rather than a tourist center, and there’s not much here for visitors. In fact, it can feel a bit rough at times—especially on weekend nights, when the town’s many bars are packed. However, it has some attractive Georgian architecture and a few sights worth seeing, with a couple more offerings in the countryside nearby.
