Sails in the Desert

Uluru's second priciest resort is an interesting hybrid of 80's era architecture with very contemporary, Aboriginal-inspired decor. The rugs in the rooms are mean to look like dot art paintings of riverbeds, there are fine Aboriginal artworks on the walls, and even the lamps are carved to look as if they are part of the natural landscape (a honeycomb, perhaps?). All are comfortable, with a private balcony or patio, though they will disappoint those who expect a true 5-star, luxury room (and most will at these rates). Alas, guests can’t see the Rock from their rooms, but most guests are too busy sipping cocktails by the pool to care (Sails has the best pool area in the region, open only to guests). The on-site restaurant features an "interactive kitchen", which is a fancy way of saying it's a buffet, another surprise for a supposedly deluxe resort. The hotel’s Red Ochre Spa is the only day spa at Yulara. It has four therapy rooms offering a range of treatments and therapies, with two rooms offering “dry” massage therapies and two “wet” rooms that have tubs on the veranda.
