Set amid the streams of the Dan River's headwaters, this is a delightful spot for a meal, except on weekends, when it often gets frantically busy. You can eat outside, on tables beside willow trees and brooks, or on picnic tables inside the rough stone and wood pavilion. A quick walk around the trout pools and tanks will assure you that the trout is spectacularly fresh -- you can have yours grilled with garlic butter sauce, smoked with mustard sauce, baked with herbs and a lemon or mushroom sauce, or fried with almond sauce. You can also order salmon filet or steak, but with trout so fresh and so famous, why order anything else? You can start your meal with an assortment of small Middle Eastern salads (included with homemade bread in the dinner price), or you can just stop for something lighter, such as a salad and delicious fish soup. There is a grilled shish kabob children's plate, and a good assortment of beers, nonalcoholic drinks, and desserts. Friday and Saturday until noon, Dag Al HaDan serves a great breakfast/brunch with salads, eggs, local cheeses, and a choice of smoked fish.
