Side Trips in Val d'Isere
A Side Trip to Albertville -- The rail and highway junction of Albertville lies in La Vallée de la Tarantaise, a sinuous valley that climbs 85km (53 miles) along Route 90. Route 90 extends from low-lying Albertville and branches into La Vallée d'Isère, whose focal point is the resort of Val d'Isère. Most visitors travel between the two by car, although about five trains a day connect Albertville and Bourg-St-Maurice. From Bourg-St-Maurice, a bus continues for another 30km (19 miles) up to Val d'Isère, leaving at times that coincide with train arrivals. Train passengers should expect a total transit time of 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the day of the week. The one-way fare is around 14€.
