Getting There

By Plane -- The Trollhättan/Vänersborg airport lies 8km (5 miles) west of the town center. Taxis are the only mode of transport from here. Passengers either drive their own cars or pick up the "Taxi Phone" adjacent to the luggage pickup stand and summon one. The cost of a taxi into the center of Vänersborg is around 195SEK ($39/£20).

By Train -- Ten trains arrive from Stockholm every day; depending on the train, the trip takes between 3 and 5 hours. Most require you to change trains in Herrlgungå en route. About 10 nonstop trains arrive from Gothenburg daily and take about an hour. For information, call tel. 771/75-75-75.


By Bus -- At least two buses arrive from Stockholm every day, a travel time of 6 hours, as well as a handful of buses from Gothenburg (travel time: about 90 min.). By Car -- From Trollhättan, our last stopover, continue north along Route 45 into Vänersborg.

Visitor Information

The tourist office in Vänersborg is one of the few in Sweden that changes its address according to the season. Between June and August, it's at the railway station (tel. 0521/27-14-10;, where it operates Monday to Friday 8am to 7pm, Saturday and Sunday 10am to 4pm.
