Planning a trip to Vézelay
Arriving — If you’re driving from Paris, take A6/D606 south to Auxerre, then continue south along N6 to Givry and then D951 to Vézelay. Eight trains a day travel from Paris Gare de Bercy to Sermizelles, taking 2 hr., 30 min. For train information, visit www.sncf-connect.com or call tel. 36-35. You’ll need to take a taxi or the shuttle bus into town (details on tourist office website).
Alternatively, you might like to arrive on foot or by mountain bike. A new 84-km (52-mile) signposted route (GR213 A) links Vézelay with the UNESCO-listed Fontenay Abbey (www.abbayedefontenay.com; tel. 03-80-92-15-00), the world’s oldest-preserved Cistercian site in Montbard.
Visitor Information — The Office de Tourisme is at 8 rue St-Etienne (destinationgrandvezelay.com; tel. 03-86-33-23-69).
