A romantic garden with an even more romantic story. It’s small—less than 1/2 hectare (1 acre)—but exquisitely beautiful, with a modernist house set amid quiet woodlands, rocky slopes, and lovely vistas. The way the story goes is that Marjorie (Peggy) Pemberton-Carter met Russian Prince Nicholas Abkhazi in Paris in the 1920s, but they went their separate ways and didn’t meet again until 1946, after they’d both been through difficult times, including spending time in prisoner-of-war camps. They married, moved to Victoria, and set about creating this lush refuge. Tea is served in their former home, which has been lovingly restored.
