This magnificent urban forest in the Municipality of Saanich offers one of the most spectacular panoramas of the Victoria area. Several trails and a paved road lead to the 213m (700-ft.) summit of Mount Douglas, with its 360-degree views of Saanich, Victoria, the Haro Strait, and Washington State’s Olympic and Cascade mountains. Churchill Drive, the paved road to the top, is closed to vehicular traffic every morning, making it a safe and accessible, if steep, multi-use trail and an ideal morning workout. There are also 21km (13 miles) of trails through field and forest, as well as a sandy beach, playground, picnic areas, and plenty of plants and wildlife to check out in this 188-hectare (465-acre) suburban park.
