Once you check into this discreetly gorgeous boutique hotel a block away from the harbor, you may never want to leave. A major makeover in 2013 cooled down what was a slightly fussy traditional decor, and left the rooms shimmering in elegant silver, smoke, and pearl. Tall windows let in lots of light, though it must be said, there’s not much of a view, except from some of the Diamond Rooms on the 6th and 7th floors. No matter—the beds are lusciously comfortable, the marble bathrooms have deep soaker tubs and walk-in showers, some rooms have gas fireplaces, the service is warmly helpful, and it’s all perfectly lovely. The hotel is also home to the beautifully appointed Magnolia Spa, which carries the Intelligent Nutrients line created by the founder of Aveda, as well as the Catalano Restaurant & Cicchetti Bar, which offers breakfast and room service for guests.
