Centrally located in the heart of downtown, across the street from Canada's oldest synagogue and a block away from City Hall, this warren-like, renovated heritage building provides cheap accommodations for its mostly young clientele. From four- or six-bed dorms to private rooms (the Queen Room is the only unit with its own en-suite bathroom and television), Ocean Island provides the basics for travelers on a tight budget. There's a fridge in every room, fully equipped shared kitchens, and 23 shared bathrooms. Most units are very tiny and many have a sink, but some don't even have windows. Breakfast is available around the clock in the OI Cafe Lounge, which also offers live music, game nights, and daily bar specials.
