Diners have lined up out the door for the past three decades for John's hearty breakfasts, lunches, and dinners, with the longest lines on weekend mornings. It's classic comfort food, featuring homemade bread and an all-day breakfast menu featuring the city's best eggs benedict. Two other favorite dishes are waffles with cream cheese syrup, and Bat Out of Hell, a homey meatloaf-and-eggs entree. The walls of the downtown diner are covered floor-to-ceiling with photos of the staff and their families and friends. There's also a large mural of Detroit's Tiger Stadium featuring the restaurant's namesake and owner, John Cantin, in the bleachers, along with Detroit Red Wings pennants and posters from John's favorite rock concerts. The serving staff is always upbeat and playful. Settle into one of the restaurant's cozy booths and enjoy the fun.
