Housed in a dark, windowless basement in a sketchy section of downtown Victoria, The Mint has been a popular restaurant and late-night hangout for more than a decade. Walk through the sidewalk's iron gate and down sparkled stairs, and you'll come to this 150-seat, Nepalese- and Tibetan-influenced restaurant, with candlelight and strings of fairy lights casting a spell. Goat curry, momos stuffed with local water buffalo, and vegetarian dishes like spinach paneer curry are highlights of an unusual menu. An extensive drink list includes value-priced cocktails and four varieties of beer on tap by local favorite Phillips Brewery. After 9:00 on Thursdays to Sundays, a DJ sets up behind a pair of turntables propped on an old cookstove in the corner, cranking out a soundtrack of dubstep and other electronica.
