Terrapin

Serious, special occasion food in an elegant setting (with touches of leather, wood and candlelight) are the draws here.  The menu celebrates all the wonderful Tidewater flavors from oysters and crab to seasonal, mostly organic, produce. Terrapin's sourdough rolls are pretty special, too (they're made in house).  If you can get the Lynnhaven oysters, do. Terrapin's signature dish is a dazzler: fennel pollen-dusted scallops with local mushrooms, black truffles, and perfectly seasoned pan juices.  At the end of the meal, you'll leave with a flavorful memento, such as a taste of housemade granola. Tip: Half portions are available for some dishes though many go for the four-course tasting menus which is usually a good value (about $52), pricier with optional wine pairings ($80).
