Planning a trip to Vulcano

Visitor Information -- The tourist office no longer operates here. Information on Vulcano is available by calling the tourist office in Lipari (tel. 090-9880095).

Getting Around -- Most people walk, but a private company, Scaffidi (tel. 090-9853017), runs buses from the port area to Piano, a village in the southwestern interior of the island, and to Gelso at the southern tip. Seven buses operate Monday through Saturday; two on Sunday. If you'd rather rent a bike or scooter, go to Da Paolo, Via Porto Levante (tel. 090-9852112), open May through November daily from 8am to 8:30pm. Mountain bikes cost from 6€ to 10€ per day; scooters range from 15€ to 40€.

Fast Facts

Banks -- The Banco di Sicilia, Via Marina Garibaldi 152 (tel. 090-9811140), has an ATM and keeps regular banking hours Monday through Friday.

Currency Exchange -- Money can also be exchanged at the Thermessa Agency, Via Porto Levante (tel. 090-9852230), open daily from 6:30am to 8:30pm.

Emergencies -- Call tel. 113 for the police, tel. 118 for first aid. For medical services from June to September, a doctor is on call at tel. 090-9852220.

Pharmacy -- The island pharmacy, Bonarrigo, Via Favaloro 1 (tel. 090-9852244), is open daily 9am to 1pm and 7 to 9pm.

Police -- The Carabinieri (army police corps) can be called at tel. 090-9852110.

Post Office -- The post office is on Via Piano, off Porto di Levante (tel. 090-9853143).
