First, know that there is no trout on this menu, or any other menu. In New Zealand trout is only for those who catch it. The Trout Bar has plenty of other tasty regional options, however, including a lovely lamb rack with a beetroot puree, and a crispy salmon dish (the skin is cooked to a smoky delicious crisp). This is a restaurant that gives presentation its full attention, and the chef’s modernist take on a prawn cocktail might surprise. An extra bonus here is the view: From where you sit (across the road from the lakeshore), the wide waters of Lake Wanaka and the high peaks of Mount Aspiring National Park are in full view. The bar serves a large range of craft beers and Central Otago wines by the glass.
