Another taco shop? Not so fast. Chaia takes the fast-casual taco concept and puts a super-fresh, locally sourced, entirely vegetarian spin on it. Everything here is veggie-focused, and many of the menu items can made vegan, too, such as the chipotle sweet potato tacos, the roasted eggplant tacos, and the braised mushroom enchiladas. The beverage menu rounds out the restaurant’s eco-trendy vibe, with house-made natural sodas, iced hibiscus tea, and elderberry kombucha. The Georgetown location is tucked next to the C&O Canal; there’s a small courtyard with tables along the canal where you can enjoy your tacos on a nice day. There’s a second location in Chinatown (615 I St. NW; tel. 202/290-1019), and one on the way in the Maryland suburb of Bethesda (7237 Woodmont Ave.).
