Another pizza spot? Hear me out. Pizzeria Paradiso has been around since before the gourmet pizza trend was born. It’s 30 years old and remains a favorite among a wide field of contenders. Paradiso cooks its pizzas in a domed, wood-burning stone oven that can withstand 650-degree heat, which gives the pizza a light but doughier crust than its rivals. The pies come in 9- and 12-inch sizes, and the 44-item toppings list includes everything imaginable, from shrimp to vegan mozzarella. Paninis and salads get high marks as well. Pizzeria Paradiso serves wine and also has a Birreria, where patrons interested in microbrews and handcrafted beers can select from 13 drafts and more than 200 bottles. Paradiso’s other locations include one in Georgetown, at 3282 M St. NW (tel. 202/337-1245), and one in Spring Valley, at 4850 Mass Ave. NW (tel. 202/885-9101), which does take reservations.
