Where else could you find a thriving drive-in movie theater right next door to an outstanding nature preserve? The vintage Wellfleet Drive-In (51 State Highway/Route 6; tel. 508/349-7176), built in 1957, shows double features of current first-run pictures nightly throughout the summer; there’s a flea market, snack bar, mini-golf, and even indoor movie house on the same grounds. Adjoining it is the 937-acre Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary (291 State Highway/Route 6; tel. 508/349-2615), which has walking trails through saltmarshes and pine woods, teeming with fiddler crabs, green herons, and all sorts of other wildlife. It’s open daily 8am to dusk; admission is $8 adults, $5 seniors, $3 kids ages 2 to 12.
