Groovy 70's-style decor, killer cocktails and Asian-inspired tapas are the inspired formula behind Chow, one of the city's most popular eateries. The three together make this a prime spot for birthday parties and the dinner that starts of many bachelor and bachelorette parties. But ignore the rowdies, if you can, and concentrate on the food which is superb. Among the many stand-outs on the menu, our favorites are the blue cheese and peanut wontons, the banana-leaf steamed tarakihi (a Down Under species of fish) with coconut sauce, the Pekin Duck lettuce cups, and the beggars purse of Chinese greens, bamboo, peanuts and shitake mushrooms. That last dish is one of many all-vegetable ones on the menu, making this an excellent pick for vegetarians.
