We'd have to descirbe Monsoon Poon as an Asian cantina (and a very popular one at that: it has now opened a second restaurant in Auckland). The atmosphere is festive, with hanging lanterns, Buddha sculptures and Japanese parasols hanging here and there. And the menu covers most of Southeast Asia from Vietnamese summer rolls to Bangkok street noodles to Thai beef salad to Indian curries. Among our faves on the menu are the beef rendang (Indonesian) and the thai jumbo prawns, but we've yet to hit upon a dish that isn't mouthwatering. Tip: From 4–6pm it's "Lucky Hour", which means cocktails, wine and beer are deeply discounted.
