From the entryway, the Second Street Bistro looks like a standard diner, down to the refrigerator case filled with desserts. But the sophisticated decor in the dining rooms—dark colors, granite table tops, and sleek banquettes—are clues that the menu offers more than a good hamburger and cup of coffee. The bistro does serve burgers, beautiful mounds of meat draped with cheese and served on big golden rolls. But diners who go with the Southern specialties on the menu are amply rewarded (especially the pimento-grilled cheese and the crab and corn chowder.) The daily specials always feature whatever seafood is freshest that day. For those with lighter appetites there's an array of flatbreads and small plates. Along with a full bar, the bistro also serves its own wine: Aratas, produced in Napa Valley.
