Known for its "Death by Chocolate" —a decadent dessert extravaganza layering chocolate mousse, chocolate meringue, brownies, chocolate ganache, mocha mousse, and mocha rum sauce (whew!)— the Trellis doesn't do things by halves. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are elaborate feasts, using locally sourced foods and all the skills of the talented kitchen staff. Sure, you can start the day here with a simple granola, but why would you when slow-smoked duck hash is on the menu as is French toast made with Williamsburg's eggy, rich Sally Lunn bread and topped with a vanilla bourbon sauce? Lunch and dinner offer similarly creative celebrations of Southern cuisine—roasted quail with an apple and crabmeat stuffing and bison hanger steak with gorgonzola fingerling potatoes are but two of the offerings. Remember to save room—dessert, as mentioned, is rightly famous. The dining rooms are a treat, too, especially the front garden room with its cheerful colors and whimsical birdcage chandeliers, and the back dining room with its windows on all the culinary action of the kitchen.
