Campgrounds

Lone Fir (27 sites) is the first real campground below Washington Pass. Continuing eastward on Wash. 20, you come to Klipchuck (46 campsites) and Early Winters (12 campsites) campgrounds. There are also several campgrounds west of Early Winters on the Harts Pass Road. Harts Pass (5 campsites) and Meadows (14 campsites), a little bit farther up this rough road, are both at high elevations and provide access to the Pacific Crest Trail.

In the Winthrop area, Pearrygin Lake State Park (163 campsites) is a good choice if you're in need of a hot shower. For reservations, contact Washington State Parks Reservations (tel. 888/226-7688; www.camis.com/wa). For information on all other campgrounds, contact the Okanogan National Forest's Methow Valley Visitor Center, 49 Hwy. 20 (P.O. Box 39), Winthrop, WA 98862 (tel. 509/996-4000; www.fs.fed.us/r6/okanogan). For national forest campground reservations, browse to Recreation.gov (tel. 877/444-6777 or 518/885-3639).
