Xi'an has an ever-increasing array of accommodation options to choose from. Hostels are popping up all over the city and, at the other end of the scale, the Accor group has opened a prestige development containing a Sofitel, Mercure, and Grand Mercure within the city walls. However, its location a little too far from the sights, and the hodgepodge of styles and poor service have thus far proven to be stumbling blocks. All hotels listed below will offer some discount, and reductions of as much as 50% off the rack rates can be achieved with bargaining.

Unless you have an early train, staying by the station has little merit, but if you must, try the Jiefang Fandian, Jiefang Lu 181 (tel. 029/8769-8888; fax 029/8769-8666; ¥358-¥388 standard room, ¥538 suite; 20% discount available), directly across from the railway station, or the Grand Soluxe (tel. 029/8576-8888; ¥880 standard room, ¥1,380 suite; up to 50% discount available), directly behind the Jiefang. A better selection of lodgings is to be found in the central and southern parts of town, nearer to the major attractions and restaurants.
