During the months after the Long March when the Communist Party first arrived in Yan'an, it chose this site for its headquarters. Of greatest interest are the cave dwellings of Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, and Zhu De, who lived here between 1937 and 1938. Brick floors, simple wooden furniture, and graceful window lattices give these austere rooms a cozy quality. On display are intriguing photographs from the Yan'an years and Lenin's funeral.
