Getting There

Yan'an Airport is 10km (6 miles) northeast of town. A shuttle bus to the town center costs ¥5 or taxis are ¥30. Yan'an is connected by air with Beijing and Xi'an (one flight daily).

The Yan'an railway station is at the south end of town. Trains to Xi'an take as little as 5 hours; the K558 which leaves at noon is convenient, although the T45 which leaves at 3:35pm is a little faster and continues to Beijing (16 hr.). You can buy tickets at the station, but it's easiest to proceed through the train ticket booking office in town, next to the Yan'an Tourist Hotel (Yan'an Luyou Dasha) on Zhongxin Jie.

Most buses arrive and depart from the South Bus Station opposite the railway station, although some services leave from the Dongguan Jie Station. From Pingyao or Taiyuan, it's easiest to go to Xi'an first, then transfer to bus or train for Yan'an. From the South Bus Station services connect Xi'an and Yan'an throughout the day for the 4-hour journey and cost ¥78.50. One daily bus at 1:40pm connects Yan'an to Luoyang from the South Bus Station. For the 5-hour journey to Yinchuan, there are four services per day that leave from the Dongguan Jie station.

City bus rides cost ¥1. Rates for taxis are ¥5 for the first 3km (2 miles), then ¥1.20 per additional kilometer. Between 10pm and 7am, the first 3km (2 miles) are ¥5.90. Most destinations within the city are under ¥10.
