By all accounts the best place in town, Madison Crossing makes for a classy night out: attentive service and excellent food in a warmly lit, Montana-chic setting. The 1918 building was the first school in town, and indeed, you’ll dine where first graders of yore once practiced their lessons. The place prides itself on its extensive wine list, but the beer and cocktail menus are also lengthy (the latter heavy on fine whiskeys). Entrees are classic and well-prepared, from steaks to a huckleberry burger to a tasty Idaho trout and veggie-laden ratatouille risotto. The veggie burger is particularly creative: a mushroom, bean, and hazelnut patty with green goddess dressing.
