After decades of neglect, a renovated Bundek Park in Novi Zagreb reopened to the public in 2007. The park's gravel-beach lakes, bike paths, gardens, and children's playground all were redone and the result is a serene urban green space that attracts families, joggers, and events such as flower and art shows. Bundek's transformation from overgrown eyesore to city showplace is just the first phase of "Zagreb on the Sava," the city's initiative to develop the banks of the Sava River for recreation and tourism. Bundek is less than a block from the city's new Museum of Contemporary Art on Avenija Dubrovnik and across from the Zagreb Fairgrounds. The new museum building was not yet finished as we went to print.
