From Tkalčićeva, a long flight of wooden stairs leads up to Radićeva. From there, a steep winding cobblestone path brings visitors to Kamenita Vrata, the Stone Gate. After a devastating 1731 fire, a painting of the Virgin and Child was found here in the ashes, totally undamaged. The image was declared miraculous and housed in a dedicated shrine. Today locals still come here to pray, in a dark grotto, with several pews and dozens of flickering candles. The walls bear countless tiny stone plaques saying “hvala” (thank you), in gratitude to the Virgin.
