Art lovers should put a half day aside to visit this excellent museum located south of the city centre in Novi Zagreb. Housed in a light and airy concrete building, opened in 2009, the permanent collection features over 600 paintings, sculptures, and installations, created between 1950 and the present, mainly by Croatian artists. It also hosts very good temporary exhibitions. There is a small ground floor café and a gift shop with a selection of art books. Admission is free on the first Wednesday of each month. To reach the museum, take tram no. 6 from either the main square or the train station to its terminus, Sopot.
