For the ultimate romantic experience, stay in one of the highest igloos in the world. "Igloo Village" holds down a spot way up on the mountainside near the Matterhorn at an altitude of 2727m. The full package here includes mulled wine, cheese fondue, a hot tub, nighttime snowshoeing, an ice bar, breakfast in a mountain restaurant, and sleeping bags and liners suitable for as low as -40°C. The range of accommodation goes from special "romantic" igloos for honeymooning couples (with spacious facilities, breathtaking views, and plenty of Prosecco) to the more basic "standard igloo" that sleeps up to six and is ideal for adventurous families. New in 2014 was a heated igloo (actually it's an igloo-shaped tent) with its very own stove. The igloo season runs approximately Christmas to mid-April, depending on snow conditions. Make sure you come prepared with warm, winter-proof clothing like ski gear, sturdy winter shoes like moon boots, good quality waterproof gloves, sunglasses, suntan lotion, and cash—credit cards are not accepted.
