Nestled above the ancient wooden hamlet of Blatten, this quaint little mountain restaurant offers plenty of alpine atmosphere, topnotch service, unbeatable food, and jaw-dropping views from its sun terrace. One of the oldest eateries around Zermatt (it's an easy 30-minute hike from the village), Bergrestaurant Blatten is owned by the famous Taugwalder family, descendents of the two mountain guides who successfully undertook the first ascent of the Matterhorn in 1865. It's a popular lunch destination for skiers and walkers, drawn by the delicious alpine cuisine (using herbs from the nearby Ricola Herb Garden), fine wines, and amazing fruit tarts.Expect copious salads, mountain sausages and cheeses, nourishing stews, and rösti, homemade pasta, and polenta dishes on the varied menu.On Wednesday nights in winter there are jolly fondue evenings (advance booking essential), and the open-air Snowbar is a popular piste-side watering hole.
