Set on the shores of Lake Zurich, a few steps from the Opera and a 10-minute walk from Bahnhofstrasse, the five-star Eden au Lac is one of the city’s finest hotels. A gem built in 1909, it's got old world charm and elegance—from its bedrooms, furnished in neo-baroque style, to its art nouveau banquet halls. The French restaurant here is famed for its hot hors d’oeuvres: as one of the earliest tasting menus, developed for the Aga Khan III during his stay during World War II, today's reincarnation comprises six courses and costs CHF145. Our favorite experience here occurs during winter, when the Top of Eden roof terrace provides hot water bottles and blankets with its fondue menu to allow for cold-weather enjoyment of its unsurpassed lake and city views.
