Dating from 1890, this grandiose building beside the lake was built in late Baroque style; it was the first opera house in Europe to have electric lighting. Many famous composers have been associated with the opera house over the years, including Richard Wagner, Richard Strauss, Paul Hindemith, and Arthur Honegger. It remains one of the top places for opera in the world and is also an important ballet stage.
