A Plug for Montgomery, Alabama

by happynomad »

This is less of a question than a statement but I have relatives in Montgomery and very few people realize what an interesting town it is. It has the Civil Rights Memorial designed by Maya Lin, a great theater (the Alabama Shakespeare Festival), a weird area of folk art called the Cross Garden and some terrific restaurants, plus lovely scenic areas right outside of town. So don't cross it off your list if you're heading south. It doesn't get much publicity but it's a terrific place to visit.

I use to travel AL in my work and Montgomery was one of the towns I visited occasionally.   I always enjoyed it.   The people were friendly and everything just 'felt good' there. So, I loved it.

I, too, have been to Montgomery though I didn't make it to the Shakespeare Festival (surprised to hear there is a Shakespeare Festival in Montgomery!). I have relatives in the area, so I'll have to add that to my list of to do's on the next family visit. Thanks!
