How expensive is Vienna?

by denizov »

I am planning to spend some time in Vienna this summer. Maybe 4-5 days. I was offered an apartment  30 euros per night breakfast not included. I wonder is this price reasonable or not? The place is in the central part of Vienna.

Seems exceptionally cheap to me, but I have only stayed in hotels in  Vienna.

Two things you might be wise to do:

1) Go to AirBnb and compare prices for apartment rentals in Vienna

and

2) Do a Google search for "Are vacation apartment rentals legal in Vienna?"

That information might help you better assess the offer.

Vienna has a very good public transportation system, so you don't need to pay more for "location" for touristing.  However, some areas of the city are more desirable in terms of being upscale or pretty, so that might affect price.

Seems very reasonable. How much comfort and independence does it offer? And where exactly is it located? Check against the public transporation website, and use Google Street View to "walk around the neighborhood". Compare not only to Airbnb but also to www.housetrip.com and go through the specifics - own bathroom or shared? Kitchen? That sort of thing. If you're not the fussy type, you may want to go for it.

MQuartz and mushroom have given you good guideposts...the only thing I can add is that for Vienna, "central" can have ambiguous meanings.

Certainly the Altstadt, or Innere Start (the area inside the ring) is central.

I'd also include the neighborhoods at one remove out, such as Landstrasse (3rd district), Wieden (4th), Margareten (5th) and Mariahilf (6th) are still central, and offer easy access to the center. The 2nd is also central, but it's on the opposite side of the Donaukanal, and feels, to me at least, less connected.

Here's a link for an expat site with a pretty good rundown on neighborhood character...https://www.expatify.com/austria/exploring-the-central-districts-of-vienna-austria.html
