Backpacking in Belize

What are the best backpacking trails for students who would like to see Belize? Are they through hikes, or mainly routes that involve hostel hopping? Thanks!

Caye Caulker is the most popular destination for backpackers in Belize (it's an island, so you will need to take a ferry or a water taxi to get there).

But some of the best hiking you'll find are in San Ignacio, at the foothill of the Maya Mountain. Xunantunich and the ATM cave are relatively accessible from this area.
