Czechia - old name is "new" again

by mquartz »

News agencies reported in April of 2016 that the use of the name Czechia (the ch pronounced as a k) is now being encouraged officially. However, according to www.go-czechia.com there is more to it than that - it's an interesting read.

it is something that has been discussed for a number of yeqars and certaily when I am in Czechia I hear it being refer to a lot and friends that live there use it. I was there last year during the world Ice Hockey championship and Czechia was the name being shouted .

BTW that link is not opening for me.

There is also talk about changing the officila language to English but that is at a very early stage.

Interesting read, but not of particular importance--though I would guess that smaller, less influential countries would care about such things to a greater degree than more powerful, "weighty" countries.  i wish all the world's countries were of the smaller and less influtential sort. Maybe we'd worry more about our names than about controlling and invading other countries--maybe.
