Miami Advice Needed

by /bio/farrah »

Wondering a couple of things:

1) Is it worth the expense of staying in Miami Beach (where the hotels seem to be much pricier) or should we stay in a cheaper area and commute to see it

2) Vizcaya: Anyone been? Looks interesting, but wondering if its worth our time

3) Versailles:: my boyfriend has heard of it, and we'd like to have a real, Cuban food experience, but we're wondering if there's a better place or if this is where we should go

4) We're in our 40's but still like to go out dancing. Will we have trouble at the "velvet ropes" at the clubs in Miaim or are they pretty open to people of all ages?

Many thanks.

if part of your plan is to spend time on the beach I will suggest to  stay in Miami beach .. parking is a nightmare  inmiami beach so  if you stay  awsy you will have to deal with finding parking and paying crazy prices so  spend that money in  nice  hotel close tot eh beach.. after taht you can walk almost everywhere

if you like to party  Miami is the place for you...

go to Lincoln Mall ( is not a mall is actually a pedestrial area with everythnig stores, restaurants , bars and clubs..

also there is  Ocean Drive  where there are plenty of night life  ( too turisty for me ) but  is good for first timers...

I  am in the top 40's and like to party  and  never had any problem  getting in the nice clubs .. I dont know about  the one the movie stars hang  out in ..

Versailles is  good... it is a good cuban food ( a lil touristy) be aware this restaurant is in  downtown Miami .. so it is a drive from Miami beach....

I LOVED Vizcaya. One of the highlights of my trip to Miami.

As for Miami Beach--soooo much fun. I believe you can find some cheaper hotels there. Have you checked the hotels section on this sight?

And while I don't know about clubs, I have eaten at Versailles and it's quite good. In fact, half the customers were Cuban when I was there, which says something about its authenticity. Definitely go!

You should stay in miami beach.

The clubs are not a problam but watch the no park signs they will tow your car and cash only will get it back.

Versallies is a great place on 8th st and aprox 57av in little Hvana. Try the cuban pork and next door the pastries shop.

while out that way the Seminol casino is a good place for fun or the airboat tours alll down the Tamiami trl.

Have fun in the Florida sun.

Best idea for Miami is to go airboating - esp. if you have kids. It's a authentic Florida experience. My favorite is Ride the Wind but there's also Holiday Park.
