Warm weather escape recommendations for extended family to please all of the people at least some of the time?

by theophania »

We are: four siblings, two in-laws, two children ages 11 and 9.

For the adults: three of us are pretty well travelled (very little phases us), one is not an experienced traveller but is willing to try new things, one is mildly xenophobic and the other potentially hypochndriac (always concerned about gastro-intestinal upsets). The children generally go along with whatever parents, uncles and aunties want.

In what may well be a disaster, we are all thinking of traveling together and are looking for place that will please all of us, at least at varying levels at varying times.

We all want someplace that is warm in the winter. Some of us are into laying on the beach, others more into history, food, and gorgeous natural scenery besides the beach. We all have passports so we are open to leaving the USA or staying within it. We are also open to non-island destinations in Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, etc. But if they've gotten bad press on Fox News, the xenophobe would probably freak out.

This may be hopeless, but I thought I'd ask!

I wrote a fairly detailed reply, but it wouldn't post for some reason. I just can't bring myself to retype it all. So i'll just say St. Martin, and add for the FOX "News" swallower--it depends on what Rupert Murdoch has told his FOX "News" puppets to say about France recently since St. Martin is half French. He had them pounding France a while back, but Rupert does change his mind, so maybe he's told them to say France and its possessions are OK now.
